Dear Diary: I Hate Cleaning, But I Want a Clean Home. Here’s the Plan!
Dear Diary,
I have a confession to make: I hate cleaning.
There. I said it.
Which is probably a strange thing to admit when I’ve spent so much time creating cleaning routines, schedules, planners, and now… a whole book about cleaning.
But here’s the thing: I don’t hate having a clean home. I love having a clean home. I love walking into a room that feels calm and put together. I love waking up to a kitchen that isn’t staring at me from the night before. I love that feeling when everything is picked up and I can finally relax.
What I hate is the process of getting there.
The starting. The deciding what needs to be done. The feeling that there is always something else I should be cleaning. The guilt when I fall behind. And, if I’m being completely honest, the ridiculous amount of mental energy I can spend thinking about cleaning instead of actually cleaning.
So I decided to try something different.
Instead of waiting until I magically become the kind of person who loves cleaning, I’m going to work with the person I actually am: someone who wants a clean home but would really rather be doing almost anything else.
And that is how my 6-Week Clean Home Plan was born.
For the next six weeks, I’m going to follow the system I’ve been working on and see what happens when I stop trying to clean everything and instead focus on doing the right things, in the right order, consistently enough to make a difference.
And yes… I’m turning the whole experiment into a book.
Because apparently, when you’re a cleaning procrastinator with perfectionist tendencies, the solution is to give yourself a deadline and announce it on the internet. 😂
So consider this my official Dear Diary entry.
I’m going to document the plan, the progress, the things that work, the things that don’t, and what I learn along the way.
And maybe—just maybe—I’ll prove that you don’t have to love cleaning to finally have the clean home you want.
